Over the past three months, KVTC has made notable advancements, including the introduction of new programs, hiring of new staff, and expansion of course offerings. While these developments are encouraging, they have also presented challenges, particularly in staff management and teaching consistency. Despite these challenges, we remain committed to providing high-quality vocational training and empowering the youth in our community.
New Programs Introduced: In response to growing demand for vocational skills, KVTC introduced three new courses in Q1 2025:
Food Production
Plumbing and Pipe Fittings
Tour Guide Course
These additions diversify our offerings, providing students with skills relevant to local and regional job markets.
Student Enrollment: KVTC has successfully enrolled 88 students, where 60 are new enrollees for level One in various programs this quarter. The distribution of students across our level one courses is as follows:
Electrical Installation (Level 1): 11 students
Motor Vehicle Mechanics (Level 1): 10 students
Animal Husbandry (Level 1): 0 students
Plumbing and Pipe Fittings (Level 1): 11 students
Food Production (Level 1): 6 students
Masonry and Bricklaying (Level 1): 6 students
Tour Guide (Level 1): 5 students
Cosmetology (Level 1): 5 students
Design Sewing and Cloth Technology (Level 1): 6 students
Additionally, 23 students have progressed into their second year, and 5 students have enrolled in level three. However, level three retention has been a challenge. Some students were unsure about staffing changes and opted to enroll in other schools. We remain hopeful to retain a few of them in the July intake.
Sponsorship and Support
KVTC continues to rely on the generosity of sponsors to support our students. 50 students currently benefit from sponsorships, though we face challenges securing sufficient support for all. At present, Dorothy’s Coffee is sponsoring 30 students and we are actively seeking additional sponsors. It is important to note that KET Holland is no longer providing sponsorship or support to KVTC.
We are encouraged by this steady intake and look forward to attracting more students as our new programs gain recognition Staffing Changes and New Hires: To support our expanded curriculum, KVTC has hired a new teaching staff. While this transition brings fresh energy and ideas, there have been challenges in team cohesion and consistency in teaching methods as the staff adjust to their new roles. This period of adjustment is expected to improve as staff undergo further training and integration into the KVTC culture.
Management Challenges: The ongoing transition has placed additional pressure on the Principal, who is overseeing day-to-day operations while managing a growing team. As we continue to stabilize the teaching environment, we are working to streamline processes and provide more support to ensure smooth operations moving forward.
Production and Agricultural Initiatives
KVTC has made significant steps in developing agricultural initiatives, which contribute both to the sustainability of the Centre and to the practical training of our students and support our motto we eat what we produce and we work with what we have. The current livestock and agricultural activities include:
Goats: 6
Chicken: 212
Cattle: 8
Pigs: 8
Piglets: 15
Farm (Avocado, banana, coffee, vegetables): In good condition, we are planting all our farm maize to avoid rain destruction on vegetables and give plant rotation.
These initiatives are a vital part of our efforts to achieve sustainability, providing food and income while also offering hands-on experience for students in agriculture and animal husbandry.
Land Acquisition for Sustainability
To further our goal of financial independence and sustainability, KVTC has identified a 70-acre plot of land for purchase. This land will provide essential space for expanding our agricultural activities and enable us to generate income through farming, which will contribute to the Centre's long-term self-sufficiency.
We have made a down payment of 10,000,000 Tsh toward the purchase and are seeking an additional 16,000,000 Tsh to complete the transaction. This land will allow KVTC to expand its agricultural training programs and help ensure the Centre’s financial independence in the future.
Future Plans: Expanding Income-Generating Projects
KVTC plans to expand its agricultural activities, particularly in pig farming and poultry. These areas show strong potential for generating significant income, which will directly support the Centre’s sustainability efforts. The future plans include:
Repairing and Expanding Animal Shades: Ensuring that our animal housing facilities are in good condition is crucial for the growth of our agricultural projects.
We plan to repair and expand the existing animal shelters to accommodate more livestock, particularly pigs and chicken, which are promising income-generating projects.
Expansion of Pigs and Chicken Projects: The pig farming and poultry programs have already shown considerable promise in terms of both income and educational value. Expanding these projects will increase the Centre’s revenue and provide more hands-on training for our students in the fields of animal husbandry and farm management.
If the farm is fully paid: We are planning to grow maize and cassava for KVTC Food and income.
These initiatives will not only enhance the Centre's financial independence but also provide our students with real-world training in managing successful agricultural ventures.
Support Request: Help KVTC Build Global Partnerships
As KVTC continues to grow, we are actively seeking opportunities to establish international partnerships, particularly with institutions in the Netherlands. We would greatly appreciate your help in connecting us with Dutch schools, colleges, or vocational institutions that might be willing to collaborate with us. A partnership with a Dutch institution would provide valuable opportunities for our students, including exchanges, training, and additional funding. Such partnerships are crucial for KVTC’s continued growth and ability to provide high-quality vocational training to our community.
We are deeply grateful for the support we have received so far, and we kindly ask for your assistance in helping us build these international relationships. Your support will play a key role in our efforts to provide students with greater educational and vocational opportunities.
Plans for the Next Quarter
In the upcoming quarter, KVTC will focus on stabilizing operations, improving teaching quality, and increasing student enrollment. Key initiatives will include:
Staff Development: Continued training and professional development for staff to ensure high-quality teaching and smooth integration of new staff members.
Curriculum Enhancement: Fine-tuning the curriculum of our new programs (Food Production, Plumbing, and Tour Guide Course) to meet industry standards and address students' needs.
Student Enrollment and Community Outreach: Expanding efforts to raise awareness of KVTC’s programs, including organizing career days, community events, and offering scholarships to disadvantaged students.
Strengthening Internal Systems: Improving management systems to reduce the workload on the Principal and ensure smoother operations at KVTC.
Conclusion
KVTC remains steadfast in its mission to provide quality vocational training that empowers youth and contributes to the economic development of Kibosho and surrounding areas. We are grateful for your continued support and are optimistic about the progress we will make in the coming months. We sincerely appreciate the previous financial assistance and your unwavering commitment to KVTC’s success.
